Domaine La Boutiniere was founded in 1920 by Félix Vidal. This family-owned company is now run by fourth-generation winemaker, Frédéric Boutin, who has been the owner and winemaker since 1997. Domaine La Boutiniere has 27 acres of vineyards in eight different parcels within Châteauneuf-du-Pape, including the Crus of La Crau, Le Boucou, Coste Froid, and Roumiguière. Vines are an average of 70 years old and the wines are produced from all 13 grape varieties allowed in the Châteauneuf appellation.
TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTESThis comes from two vineyard plots: “Le Grand Pierre” (Roussanne) with a sandy brown soil resting on red sandstones dating from the Miocene era and “les Marines” with a red soil on stony alluviums and a red clay subsoil. The blend of this Tradition Blanc cuvée expresses all the flavors of the Mediterranean grape varieties and of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroirs. Vines average 50 years of age.
WINEMAKING & AGEINGManual harvest with sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar. Pressing on pneumatic press, racking, vinification in thermoregulated stainless steel vats; the malolactic fermentation is blocked.
20% of the blend is vinified and ages in barrels for 6 months.
TASTING NOTESA delicate pale-yellow color with green and gold reflections. Generous, spring-like nose of white flowers: acacia flowers, peach blossom, lime blossom, and fennel…then revealing a hint of honey.
The palate is soft, silky, and velvety with stone fruit, nectarine, and vine peach with subtle citrus notes that bring freshness and noble bitterness to the finish. An astonishing acidity which balances the wine making it both suave and fresh.
Pairs with smoked salmon with dill and lime juice. Lobsters, lobster and crayfish with white butter sauce. Fatty and fleshy fish in cream sauce. Poultry with white sauce and veal blanquette will be perfect companions. Comté cheese.
