Saget La Perrière

If ever a river and the surrounding landscapes encapsulated the French national identity and lifestyle, it would surely be the Loire and the wine regions that line it. Stretching from one side of the country to the other, the river of kings has been the homeland of our family for nine generations. Originally from Pouilly-sur-Loire, we decided over twenty years ago to head off in search of other treasures that our beautiful wine region could offer. Over the years, our quest led us along both banks of the river, reaching out to local winegrowers and terroirs. We invite you to discover the gems we found on our journey and hope to share with you our passion for one of France's finest wine regions.

HISTORY

Stretching from one side of the country to the other, the river of kings has been the homeland of our family for nine generations. Originally from Pouilly-Sur-Loire, we decided over twenty years ago to head off in search of other treasures that our beautiful wine region could offer, over the years, our quest led us along both banks of the river, reaching out to local winegrowers and terroirs.

With 890 acres of vines located in the finest appellations, six estates and long-term relations with  families of vine growers, Saget La Perrière, not only has extensive vineyards, but also creates and blends a wide range of wines from the Loire Valley.

TERROIR

The Loire Valley stretches from one side of the country to the other, covering a wide variety of terroirs as do the wines of Saget La Perrière.

Starting in the East in Pouilly- sur-Loire, the family has assembled the finest terroirs, the estate represents roughly 25 acres of vines spread perfectly across the most highly prized localities of the appellation namely; vaurigny, Les Chantalouettes, les Fougeres and Les Roches, which are largely composed of calcareous clay and kimmeridgian marl soils.

Across the river, the caves at Domaine de la Perrière were naturally carved 200 million years ago. The caves are also the ideal location to age the wines from the 106 acres of the estate’s Sancerre vineyards, located in the districts of Bannay, Verdigny, Saint-Satur, Crézancy and Vinon. These terroirs are where Sauvignon Blanc can best express the symphony of its mineral and grassy aromas in harmony with the flinty soils to create powerful wines with impressive ageing potential.

Marie de Beauregard Vouvray comes from an estate located in a village called “La Roche Corbon” near the city of Vouvray. We have had a partnership with this estate for over 10 years. Marie de Beauregard Chinon is selected from two producers who reserve the production of several of their best plots of Cabernet Franc every year for Saget La Perrière. Bruno Mineur, winemaker, selects the best of the estate grown grapes for blending and maturing.

In 1995, Jean-Louis Saget purchased the Loiret Frères Company located in Le Pallet, in the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine AOC. Thanks to this acquisition, Saget La Perrière developed strong relationships with many growers in this area. The Muscadet de Sèvre & Maine sur Lie “Les Clissages d’Or” is the result of the combination between the local people’s passion for their vineyards and the expertise of winemaker Bruno Mineur.

Saget La Perrière’s properties form an unprecedented collection across the Loire Valley spanning a variety of complex & unique terroirs.

PEOPLE

Bruno Mineur was the first to join Saget La Perrière in 1988. After graduating as a winemaker in Dijon, he cut his teeth on several major Burgundy estates. Bruno is head winemaker for all the company’s Pouilly Fumé wines, particularly Domaine Saget, and is also in charge of sourcing from our external partners.

After graduating in winemaking, Philippe Reculet decided to move to California for a few months before returning to France. His various missions have led him to work on some prestigious estates in the central Loire region where he acquired substantial experience in working with the Sauvignon blanc and Pinot noir varieties. Philippe joined Saget La Perrière in 1998 and is vineyard and winery manager for the company’s two Sancerre properties, La Perrière and Domaine de Terres Blanches.

Benoît Dufour is a man of the soil. The son of a wine grower, he validated his skills by passing a diploma in viticulture and oenology. Benoît became manager of Château de la Mulonnière in 2002 after gaining work experience in several places in Anjou, leading him to become a true specialist of the Chenin blanc grape variety.

Laurent Saget, who grew up with the family company, is passionate about marketing and communication. After spending 4 years in Paris in the advertising industry, he finished his education in Dijon with a master’s degree majoring in the wine and spirits trade. Keen to ensure coherency in his projects, he could not imagine rolling out a marketing strategy for the company without integrating the technical aspects of the business. With the support of his supervisors, Laurent establishes the vineyard and winery strategies for the various estates whilst heading up the marketing department at Saget La Perrière.
