BACKGROUND

Château de la Chaize is among the oldest, most historic estates in Burgundy’s Beaujolais region. Boasting over 250 acres of vineyards, it is also one of the largest. The property is currently owned and managed by the Marquise de Roussy de Sales family, who transformed Château de la Chaize into one of the most innovative and forward-thinking producers in the region. Among its many initiatives is the adoption of eco-friendly winemaking practices. Château de la Chaize is located in the Brouilly appellation, the largest of the Beaujolais Crus and where the predominant grape planted is Gamay.

WINEMAKING & VINTAGE NOTES

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes is a selection of vineyards on the estate, all 55 to 75 years, trained in gobelet or head-pruned. The extremely low yields offer a smaller production of wine with a more complex, concentrated structure. This Cuvée is aged in three to four year-old oak-barrels for several months to develop complexity and finesse.

TASTING NOTES

The nose reveals ripe fruit aroma with spicy elements. Round and concentrated with a structure of silky and full-bodied tannins and an excellent long finish. We recommend to open it an hour before and to taste it at room temperature. A vin de garde to be enjoyed within seven to ten years of age.
