The Vatan family have cultivated vines since 1630. Domaine Chatelain is currently managed by Vincent Chatelain who represents the 12th generation. Today, the Chatelain winery has 30 hectares (74 acres) of vines in Pouilly-Fumé spread across six of the seven communes of the appellation which gives the family flexibility while putting their blends together, and as a result, their wines are balanced and optimal representations of the appellation.
WINEMAKING & VINTAGE NOTESThe different types of soils found around Pouilly–Fumé consist of a mix of silicaceous clay covered with flintstones, clay and limestone and kimmeridgean marls. The grapes for this wine come from clay siliceous soils with flintstones imparting the distinctive flintiness this wine is famous for.
Vines are an average of 15-20 years old.
Vinification takes place in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks at 61°– 64°F. Aged on its lies.
Bright golden yellow color. The nose is fruity and fragrant, with grape-fruit and some flint notes. The entry is very fresh with notes of citrus fruits and the palate is dominated by the typical flint flavors and a good minerality.
Ideal as an aperitif or with white meat with cream sauce, fish, shellfish or goat cheese.
Four to five years cellaring potential.
