The Vatan family have cultivated vines since 1630. Domaine Chatelain is currently managed by Vincent Chatelain who represents the 12th generation. Today, the Chatelain winery has 30 hectares (74 acres) of vines in Pouilly-Fumé spread across six of the seven communes of the appellation which gives the family flexibility while putting their blends together, and as a result, their wines are balanced and optimal representations of the appellation.
TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTESThe soil composition is 80% clay and limestone with 20% from the caillottes (calcareous pebbles) of Verdigny, Sury-en-vaux and Chavignol. The vines average 20–30 years old.
WINEMAKINGVinification takes places in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks (61°– 64°F); The wine is aged on its lees.
TASTING NOTESHighly aromatic with ripe lemon, grapefruit, floral, and herbal notes. The palate is quite elegant, pleasant and-well balanced with a mineral backdrop.
Delicious as an aperitif; also pairs well with poultry in cream sauce, fish, shellfish and goat cheese.
