“Il Palagio is like stepping into a painting. And one of my favorite places on Earth. I hope you fall in love with it as much as I have.” – Sting
Villa Il Palagio estate lies amid the rolling hills of the lush, fertile Tuscan countryside south of Florence. The private home of Sting and his wife Trudie Styler, this truly remarkable sixteenth-century estate has been totally renovated and includes: 65 acres of vineyards, 8,000 olive trees and 80 bee colonies amongst numerous other agricultural endeavors. All wines produced at Il Palagio are organic and certified by BioAgricert.
Casino delle Vie, a nineteenth-century farmhouse on the estate, gives its name to this Super Tuscan. The literal meaning is “little house by the roads”, but a more colloquial interpretation might be “the muddle
of ways”, inviting philosophical musings on the paths we take in life.
Harvests took place at the beginning of October. The grapes were hand-harvested from several locations in Florence located over 1,000 feet above sea level.
Maceration period lasts six to seven days. Alcoholic fermentation carried out in temperature controlled stainless steel, with pumping over and punching down four times a day, in order to extract all of the grapes’ finest qualities.
The wine is aged in barrel for 12 months and six months in bottle.
Tasting NotesFull-bodied red. Aromas of mint, spice and blueberries turn to currants, full body, with dense palate of almost jammy fruit, but then turns soft and fresh. Slight plum taste, round and very elegant with soft tannins.
Pairs well with Piccata Milanese, pork, pasta and seasfood dishes
