Légende offers consumers a journey through the different terroirs and tastes of the heralded Bordeaux region through the eyes of one of the region’s most prestigious producers, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). “It all started in the nineties. We wanted to offer our consumers a discovery of the different terroirs and tastes of Bordeaux. A name had to be found. A name that could live up to the expectations. A hint to the Rothschild family and the rich history of Château Lafite. A légende was born.”
Crafted by long-time Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) winemaker, Diane Flamand, Légende wines demonstrate a remarkable balance between tradition and modernity. With a product range that includes each of the five major appellations in Bordeaux: Bordeaux Rouge, Bordeaux Blanc, Médoc, Saint-Emilion and Pauillac, Légende wines have an approachable style, inspired by every day drinkability and enjoyment.
Owner of Château Lafite Rothschild for five generations, the Rothschild family has been associated with the vineyards of Bordeaux since 1868 and today owns Châteaux Lafite Rothschild, Duhart-Milon, L’Evangile and Rieussec. In addition to the wines produced from their prestigious vineyards, the Barons de Rothschilds have for many years created a range of more accessible wines for everyday drinking. Initially created at the request of family and friends. In a continuation of this tradition, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) decided to produce Légende in five major Bordeaux appellations: Bordeaux Rouge, Bordeaux Blanc, Médoc, Saint-Emilion and Pauillac.
A wine from a family of wine producers with a reputation such as Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) must be among the best of its kind in every appellation. The Légende wines are made under the supervision of oenologist, Diane Flamand, with the same care and attention to detail as is applied to the Grands Vins. The Pauillac and Médoc wines are produced from DBR (Lafite)’s own vineyards and from neighbouring vineyards. For the Bordeaux appellations, the technical team selects the terroirs and supervises the vinification of the grapes from partner suppliers. The Bordeaux Rouge and Blanc are made from selections of the finest production in the Entre-Deux-Mers region. As early as possible after fermentation, the DBR (Lafite) team selects the best batches of wine after successive blind tastings, enabling them not only to ensure top quality wine but also to control each stage of the winemaking and ageing. The aim, quite simply, is to produce excellent wines, which truly reflect the DBR (Lafite) house style.
Diane Flamand graduated from Oenology School of Bordeaux in 1987 and went on to earn her Masters Degree in International Wine and Spirit Trade at ESC Dijon.
