“SEIGNEURS DE RIBEAUPIERRE” GEWURZTRAMINER
The Trimbach’s have a purist vision. For three centuries and across 13 generations, the family has produced wines that are structured, long-lived, fruity, elegant and balanced: the celebrated Trimbach style. The family personally looks after each operation, from planting to harvests and from vinification to bottling.
The viticultural origin of the Trimbach family dates back to 1626, when Jean Trimbach, was recognized as a citizen of Riquewihr. From then on, the Trimbach’s were renowned for their wine-growing. Maison Trimbach’s vineyards are all situated around Ribeauville (Ribeauville, Hunawihr, Bergheim, Rorschwihr, Riquewihr and Mittlewihr). They benefit from the unique Alsatian microclimate, thanks to the Vosges Mountains protection, which preserves the plain from the rain. The vineyards were planted on the Ribeauville’s fault line that fractured 50 million years ago between the Vosges Mountain range and the Black Forest offering a mosaic of terroirs including the complex calcareous limestone and bio-degraded seashell fossils called “Muschelkalk”.
Named in honor of the Lords of Ribeaupierre who governed Alsace during the Middle Ages. This cuvée is produced only in vintages when the Trimbach family believes the quality to be high enough.
The vines come from several selected vineyards: Old vines (50+ years) from the region of Ribeauvillé locality Trottacker which has deep clay-limestone soil; In Bergheim a site called Gruenspiel on from the Keuper marls; In Hunawihr, a site called Muehlforst marl-calcaire soils on a shelly limestone substrate of Muschelkalk with a southern and South East exposure.
Vintage 2015 showed a mild winter, ample rainfall. Mid-budburst took place in April with flowering in early June. The heat of June and July favored vine growth, then a period of drought set in. Mid-August rains provided relief resumption of growth and accelerated ripening of the grapes which were perfectly healthy for the harvest.
Grapes are selected when fully ripe, delicately pressed in a pneumatic press. Vinified in stainless steel tanks, no malolactic fermentation or long aging on lees in order to preserve freshness, liveliness and fruity aromas. Bottled the on. the following spring followed by 6 years aging in the cellar.AGEING
The wine is not oak aged, the salient characteristic of which are extreme purity and concentrated fruit. It is bottled early to preserve freshness and then bottle-aged before leaving the winery.TASTING NOTES
