Noble Tree was originally founded as a passion project by two sommeliers/restaurateurs to produce wines for their fellow industry friends. Production began as a true “garagistes-négociant” style winery, focusing on healthy vineyard sources, hand-harvesting and honest winemaking practices. In 2019, Marc D. Taub of Taub Family Vineyards became proprietor of Noble Tree, upholding the mission and essence of the winemaking philosophy: to respect the varietal character and reflect the vineyard site and vintage conditions in each wine.
VINTAGE NOTESThis Zinfandel is from a very rocky site in the Middle Reach of the Russian River Valley and Chalk Hill, and is a combination of vines planted in 1885 (some of the oldest vines in Sonoma County) and 1973.
WINEMAKINGThe clusters were hand-picked, double sorted and fermented whole berry in open-top fermenters for 18 days. Punch-downs, instead of pump-overs were utilized in an effort to keep the wine delicate and avoid over-extraction. Aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 40% new.
TASTING NOTESThe dark, inky, garnet and purple color is followed by abundant black cherry and blackberry fruit intermixed with notes of graphite, spice box and earthy undertones. Stunning depth, full-bodied and opulent, while maintaining a sense of elegance, subtlety and balance.
