CÔTES DU RHÔNE ROUGE "PLAN DE DIEU"
Côtes du Rhône Plan de Dieu
77% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre
“Remain close to the source in order to better understand the constraints, but also harness its potential.” This maxim guides Ogier’s principles in producing some of the most awarded wines from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The estate’s vineyards are spread throughout several small valleys, covered in its hallmark round pebbles and stones. By reflecting the sun’s heat, this stony soil enables grapes to retain exceptional levels of ripeness to produce large-bodied and complex wines that make Ogier one of the foremost houses in the Rhône Valley. This exceptional land goes from a wide pebbly plateau, sun bathed and swept by the Mistral. This cuvée takes its name from nuns who left the Dentelle de Montmirail Massif to settle themselves here, consequently they participated in the appellation development. Therefore it was for them, the best vineyards, the “god plain” or “Plan de Dieu” was named.WINEMAKING & VINTAGE NOTES
The growing area extends over the communes of Camaret-sur-Aigues, Jonquières, Travaillan and Violès, in the département of Vaucluse. The terroir is dominated by clay and limestone with silica pebbles. The grapes are hand harvested and destemmed. The wine undergoes pre-cold fermentation on Syrah grapes only, followed by a long maceration of 25 days. Aged for 7 months in concrete tanks, in a reductive environment to protect the fruit notes, freshness and complexity.TASTING NOTES
Intense ruby color. On the nose, great aromas of very ripe fruits or marmalade (strawberry, pear) with slight wooden and animal notes. Full-bodied, rich and fruity with very silky tannins.
