BURDESE, SICILIA DOC
70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc
Planeta encompasses six distinct wine estates across Sicily, each one inspired and constructed in harmony with its surroundings and dedicated to its terroir. Planeta’s journey begins at Sambuca di Sicilia, on the estate owned by the family since the 1600s. Here on Italy's most enchanting island, three enthusiastic young Sicilians, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, under the guidance of Diego Planeta, began their winemaking venture in the mid-1980s. Subsequent years were spent matching the extraordinarily diverse Sicilian soils with both indigenous and international varieties. Years of careful research paid off when the Planeta wines were met with immediate critical acclaim upon introduction in the U.S. in the late 1990s.
All of the company’s activities have a single theme; environmental sustainability. Planeta engages in the use of solar panels and biomass production, principally pruning residues to produce energy, reusing and recycling of all materials used in the production cycle, and the exclusive use of recycled paper for packing and printed materials. Because the land is a collective benefit, Planeta considers it is a duty to make every effort in preserving it.TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES
In local dialect Burdese means from Bordeaux and recalls the classic grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This is a red wine of great density, structure and balance, produced in limited quantities from selected vineyards. Burdese is a great wine for aging which offers a complexity of aromas and flavours, fruit of the Sicilian sun.
This wine is a Bordeaux blend made in Sicily from a selection of the best grapes of the company’s vineyards. Dispensa (Cabernet Sauvignon) soils are moderately deep, very few stones and moderately limey. Maroccoli (Cabernet Franc) soils have many stones, and are averagely chalky with abundant limey sections. Spurred cordon training system.
Harvest occured September 5th–15th. Vinification: destalking followed by 21 days of resting on the skins; after racking, maturation in new Allier oak barriques for 14 months; malolactic fermentation in wood and stainless steel.AGING

A powerful red, structured on a dense and important tannin texture balanced by a decisive alcoholic content. On the palate – ripe, very dense and rich fruit. The flavors are bilberry and preserved sour cherries mixed with leather which gradually develop to intense aromas of cherry, cocoa and rosemary.
A wine with attitude, decisive and energetic enough to be enjoyed on its own or matched with something just as strong and full of character such as casseroles or game. For a vegetarian alternative, try grilled radicchio with mature cheese or almost caramelized roast onions.
